how do I set a default image in the image upload field? so when the user does not have a profile picture appears this one
so something appears instead of an empty space

because there is a default option, but I don't understand how it works, whitch ones are the directories, so I would like to know

Just set default value to the location of your picture relative to the joomla installation folder e.g. images/myimage.jpg
