Upload image to article is the second important part after adding title to content :) In my site the images are very important. Imagine when user try upload 5-7 images 2 MB each one, 30% of users upload images incorrect, they refresh the page or interrupt the upload process. I think it should be more use friendly technology like ajax.
The second problem is editing own images. There are 3 ways to delete an image.
1. Check delete check box and save article
2. Click red remove button.
3. Rewrite old image with new one.
So users confuse there.

you're right.
we worked on an Ajax upload (file, image), but always in developpment.
As it's possible we will put it for public, but I can't give date, it will depend on our workload.

yes it's something which can accelerate the development.
This feature can not be a simple standalone plugin, because we must be able to have validation plugin, typo plugin, ...
