Just noticed that there is (almost) no version number for the products!? There is only last modification date. IMHO, it is really hard to track updated versions. I mean, how should one know, if it was a modification on the file... or on the product description only? Currently one has to guess and download the product to find a difference.

Suggestion(s):
  • Add a version number field.
  • Possible locations: Under modification date... or even more prominent in the product page header. Maybe near the title! (Field Concate?)
  • Add version number to MyDownloads list. Can it include the downloaded version AND the current version number?
  • Alternative: Does it make sense to add it to the filename, and simply display this real filename? i.e. MyCoolExtension_v1.x.x.ZIP
Thanks for listening.

EDIT: o.k. finally i found a small version number example in this product ;-) It seems, many products do not have this valuable information. I would suggest to make this field "required" ;-) and a little bit more exposed.

Simon D. seems to add this info manually in the description and also in his changelog at the bottom. Better than nothing, but it would be a great help, if the latest info is mandatory and always in the same place for all products.

Hi pepperstreet,

Thanks for the message.

Just to clarify.. the number version is already displayed for ALL products.
But you can only see it when you've purchased the product. (cf screenshot)

Also I would say that it's really easy to track updated versions, because:

- You have all versions history available directly on the product page. (cf screenshot)
- Joomla! automatically alerts you when there is one update for the extension/product you've installed.
and each time we upload a new release.. the xml file linked to the product is automatically updated..

Also, please note that there are 2 differents date on the product page:

- Modified: which is about the page itself.
- Updated: which is about the file.
(the updated date is public.. even if you haven't purchased the product.. but it needs a small improvment there because it is currently not set automatically.... so some products don't have the date up-to-date.. that's it.)

Regards,
Saba.

Ah, I see. Many thanks for your detailed answer and screenshots. That looks totally different to my last experience...

Maybe it was simply too late and I have overlooked the important "Updated Date" label. Also possible I was temporarily logged-out on my 2. machine (laptop)... That would explain the difference in displayed infos. Sorry for the panic!

Version number, Updated Date:

Why is it only visible after purchase?! At least Version and Updated could be visible all the time.

Changelog:

I see, now it makes sense to me. The changelog is part of the downloads list. I expected to see this info for every file, no matter if i purchased it, or if i am a guest visiter.

Filenames:

o.k., Downloads also includes my mentioned filename scheme ;-) )
