Hannes Papenberg has been contributing to Joomla core with a new router for J3.4 (or J3.5)

Should we expect any impact in Seblod routing as a result of this? Can you comment loud and clear and advise on joomla upgrades and compatibility with Seblod versions. Obviously we test upgrades first but it would be great to hear any known issues or caveats from the Seblod team when new Joola versions are released. thanks

Hi Alanski,

Thanks for your post. SEBLOD has an excellent track record in terms of keeping pace with Joomla updates. But for what you are describing, I would not expect pre-emptive communication from the Octopoos team about potential issues with new Joomla versions. Why? because this is not their role. They do a great job at making new versions of SEBLOD available that are compatible with new version of Joomla. So, my advice is:

  1. If the latest SEBLOD version does not say it supports the latest Joomla version, DO NOT UPDATE. Wait until the next SEBLOD version is released that says it has compatibility.
  2. Test offline on a local server first before updating on a live site. This is the best way to ensure there are no issues.

You raise a good point that it is a service to the SEBLOD community to share knowledge on compatibility issues. What do you think if we try to start a community team for testing for this purpose? This can be something that the community takes control of and can help each other with. After all, SEBLOD is an open source project! Would you be interested in being part of such a team?

Hi James,

I would be glad to help in such a team. Would you please let me know when things get started?

Thanks to everyone for putting their hands up to help out. Great to see.

I'll be putting a post up on the SEBLOD blog in the next 2 weeks about community participation, and about starting 1 or 2 community teams like this that will exist as stand-alone community groups.

For this particular group I think the aim will be to test SEBLOD on new versions of Joomla! when they become available, and notifying the community of compatibility issues with SEBLOD. The purpose will not to be to write a "to do" list for Octopoos to fix bugs. If the skills exist within the community to fix particular issues, then these can be submitted on GitHub.

Keep an eye out on the Blog for more info. I'll also post back here when information is available.
