Hello everyone,

I've just turned to Seblod (great job endeed!) and I'm facing a problem crossing multisite and multilanguage features.

I have to build two sites and each has both English and Italian languages pages.

Each site has its own home page set in Construction->Sites->(name of the site)->Homepage.

Each site has everything doubled for both English and Italian (categories, articles, menu, menu items), but as I'm not able to set properly Joomla menu items (I can't set more than one default page) the language switcher doesn't work properly: it is published but the underneath language list is empty.

I don't know what else to do. Every hints would be appreciated.

Thank you

Lucia

Ciao Maria!

Hi,

Actually I missed to create different menus for different languages and now it works, but partially (I add) because:

1) I'm not allowed to set 2 different home pages in Italian for the 2 different sites I'm managing (only one home page in each language is permitted)

2) whether I try to set or unset the home page in Construction->Sites->(name of the site)->Homepage option can result in "404 Article not found" error in the forehand, that I hardly manage to clean (clean caches on both Joomla administration and browser, what else?)

Is there a way to do that?

How does Construction->Sites->(name of the site)->Homepage option interact with the home page selection process?

Thank you

Well, I tried a different approach.

I built only two main categories one for each language, and only two menu (except the first main menu related to all languages) again one for each language and only one item in the selected language in eachof them. So, it works!

Now, I'm figuring out how to list different content for both sites that are lunching the same home page. I mean, how can I link separate sites to separate content?

Thank you

If you were to offer different multi-sites with single language, I would suggest turning off the language filter plugin.

But, since you want your sites to be multilingual on all subdomains, you must keep the language filter plugin turned on, and there within lies a big culprit. The parameter: Language Selection for new Visitors will set the language to default site language (or browser language), but that can be in collision with the language you selected in Seblod multi-site, so you better keep Language to - Use Default -

Also, you need a Default Home Page, assigned to corresponding access level.

By the way, have a look at this link about ACL that is involved in multi-site configurations. Seblod uses access levels to differentiate what content can be available to each multi-site. Public content is available to all sites, but content/modules/menus assigned to Site1/Site2/SiteX will only be available to corresponding site.

I suggest using copies of the template, and setting a different template instance for each multi-site, which will (in most cases) allow to select different menus for different sites.

Also remember to assign Site1/Site2/SiteX access levels to appropriate menus.

Thank you very much for your help!

Finally I managed my proposal: multiple sites with multiple languages. I crossed language switcher tecnique with ACL permission on menu, content and modules.

I hope you will also find useful the Joomla Language plugin for Seblod, so that you can use even field level content "language separation".

I don't know if I can take advantage from it now, but thanks for the hint. I'll take in mind.
